The Port of Nanaimo now has a pair of eyes under the water.
It has purchased a remote operated vehicle capable of searching for suspicious objects that are potentially lurking in the water at depths as low as 1,000-feet.
The ROV was built by Nanaimo-based company Seamor Marine Ltd.
It's unlikely that Nanaimo's port will ever be the target of a terrorist attack. In fact, it has never had to raise its security rating beyond level one, which is normal daily operations.
But it is always a good thing to be prepared, just in case, according to harbour master Andy Pitcher. Labels: news
